I needed a wireless solution for a sub as I wanted to place it on the opposite wall of the TV, this due to a common wall where the TV is mounted. The sub fit real nice behind by primary listening chairs and sounds great. No problems with the wireless and it provides more than enough bass! The only thing that would have made it better for my application is a remote (wireless) level control as I live in a townhome and need to adjust accordingly depending on the day of the week and the time of day.....aren't I a nice neighbor? Real good fit and finish and installed in a few minutes.....love it!!! Lance

This is a piece of Chinese crap. Boston Acoustics should be ashamed of themselves.
I paid $109 for this item as a Gold Box sale in June. I received it quickly and it seemed to be OK at first. After a month, it woke me in the middle of the night by booming and rumbling. I turned the switch on the back of the speaker off and back on. Problem gone. It ran OK for a week or so and suddenly started squalling, got quit and died. Permanently. My window to return had closed July 5 but the return policy for this item pretty much means you are stuck with it.
Oh well, $109.99 shot. Take my advice, look elsewhere......

Boston Acoustics Micro120X Black (Each) Ultra-Compact Satellite Speaker Review

Boston Acoustics Micro120X Black (Each) Ultra-Compact Satellite Speaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Listening to music is one of my hobby and so I am very choosey about speakers.
I owner Klipsch SF-II for 3 years but now I wanted wall mountable speakers. I listened to lots of speakers like bose, Definitive etc. I liked these one the best. They give very rich mid range and high frequency sound. Firstly I tried Boston micro 110x but 120x give much richer sound. It may be because my living room is big 15 x 20 feet so I need bigger speakers to give rich sound all over the room. Else 110x give very good sound too. It comes with wall mounting brackets so it save you atleast $10 or more. If buy just wall mounting brackets, they can run upto $70 plus they are ugly and mismatching.
I think the price is bit high. I am using velodyne woofer with these speakers and they make great combination.

Boston Acoustics CR67 Black (pr) 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker Review

Boston Acoustics CR67 Black (pr) 2-Way Bookshelf Speaker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I saw these speakers in Circuit City, I was surprised how small they were. But, in the case of these Boston bookshelf speakers, size is deceiving. They have an amazing amount of bass. And it's clean bass, not boomy. The highs are clean and clear. The mid-range is pretty good. With a decent amp or receiver, these little guys will fill a living room with beautiful sound. You will be amazed at the amount of good sound. They sound plenty big enough to be used as mains in a home theater. And they are small enough to be used as surrounds. You will be hard pressed to find a better deal on a very nice speaker. They look nice and are built solid as a rock. And did I mention that they have a surprising amount of bass? As of August 2007, they are being heavily discounted to make room for new models. I paid $119.00 per pair. What a deal! I am probably going to pick up another pair for the bedroom.

Boston Acoustics Voyager VOYA6W 6.5-Inch 2-Way Outdoor Speakers (White) Review

Boston Acoustics Voyager VOYA6W 6.5-Inch 2-Way Outdoor Speakers (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did some research before purchasing these speakers, mostly through reading other's reviews of these and other outdoor speakers on Amazon and other forums. I have to admit a bit of a bias toward BA speakers, as I have several types scattered around my house. I tend to like their presence and even nature, even though the bookshelf and ceiling speakers tend to be a bit light in the bottom end (which is expected anyway).
These speakers primarily serve a 20'x20' patio and a larger back yard behind it. For the past few years, I've used a pair of Niles OS-6 outdoor speakers. Niles has always gotten great reviews for their outdoor speakers, but I find them to emphasize the midrange too much without a lot of bottom end. To me, they have always sounded muddy and "boomy", and the high end does not project enough out into the yard. While I've read that the newer OS series is an improvement, I'm hesitant to spend the money there, as they don't seem to suit my ear.
Among the BA outdoor speakers, the Voyager 7 seems to be the gold standard, with a lot of presence and resounding bass. I was not interested in spending the money on the 7's, so I gave the 6's a shot without hearing them and reading only one review specifically about them. I first connected to my basement system to give an initial listen, and was very impressed by their omnipresent sound; they project very well, but almost in an unnatural way inside a closed space. What I mean by that is that the imaging is very wide, with an almost 3-D spatial effect. I don't normally expect such a wide image, particularly with music, and so I was thrown off a bit, despite having read about this characteristic in the review. Nonetheless, the Voyagers have a rich a full tone, covering a broad frequency spectrum.
It is outdoors that these speakers absolutely shine! The wide imaging just explodes outside, sending quality sound everywhere. These speakers project very well. I was afraid of a weak bottom end, mostly due to favorable reviews of the Voyager 7's implying they were the only Voyager speakers to provide bass. I am happy to report that the 6's have great bass. Even my wife, who does not pay too much attention to the audio in our house, commented about what an improvement the BA's are over the Niles speakers. They are used exclusively for music, covering a variety of styles including jazz, rock, pop, flamenco, classical and oldies.
Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. The speakers are full and rich, cover a great frequency spectrum, and have great dynamics, imaging and presence. The music is lively but not artificially emphasized. I would recommend them to anyone.

Atlantic Satellite 77305018 2 Speaker Stands (Black) Review

Atlantic Satellite 77305018 2 Speaker Stands (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The reason I have given 5 stars is due to the price, the height, and excellent functional design. As you know, speaker stands are ridiculously overpriced. These are reasonable.
Speaker wire can be completely hidden. The wire feeds through the stand and comes out the top for connection to your speakers. There is a cool little "U" shape on the front foot where the speaker wire comes out on the bottom. It keeps the speaker wire directed where you want it to be directed on the base. It's a very well thought out design feature that I've not seen on other stands. With tile floors, it makes a big difference for me. It keeps the speaker wire directed under the sofa where I want it so it can't be seen.
Now on to stability-
If you have hard flooring, you will be able to extend the stands all the way up if you screw the speakers to the bottom plate. The base is surprisingly stable and it has rubbery stuff on the bottom to keep it from sliding. If the stands will be on carpet, you may not be able to fully extend them unless you have small speakers. My son's system has small speakers. They are back mounted to the stand with a screw and nut that fit inside a metal bracket that can be removed for screw mount. His speakers are on berber carpet. With his small lightweight speakers he is able to fully extend these with no wobble.

Boston Acoustics SX60 - Car speaker - 65 Watt - 2-way - component Review

Boston Acoustics SX60 - Car speaker - 65 Watt - 2-way - component
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I installed the Boston sx60 Speakers and the alpine 9872 (bottom of the line alpine CD player) in my good friends 1994 Mazda Miata. I am using no external amplification.
First I removed the "phase ring" and the metal grill from the tweeters than mounted them behind the Mazda stock tweeter location. I mounted the 6.5" speaker in the stock door location. Hot glued and silicone the crossover inside each door. I tapped into the 0db output for the tweeter.
With the Alpines tone controls defeated the combination of the Alpine and the Boston's is magic.
The sound is clean clear and open with a good soundstage. Tight punchy bass and clean highs with none of the harshness that I have read in other reviews. The sound remains clean and full range right up to the point where the radio runs out of power. They are efficient enough to play to a satisfying level with the top down at highway speeds.A highly recommended speaker. Nothing in this price range sounds this good.
Franklin

Sangean WR-2 Digital AM/FM Tabletop Radio, Black Review

Sangean WR-2 Digital AM/FM Tabletop Radio, Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very appealing clock radio with digital readout that gives you name of song, artist, and other information as you listen. The mono aural speaker is warm and full. The radio is attractive, solid and well-built, evincing nothing cheap or plastic-laden. The AM is very good. Most FM stations come in strong. But hard-to-get FM stations like 89.3 from Pasadena (I live 40 miles away in Torrance) requires that I move the FM antenna, but this is not a big deal, just a nitpick.
Most listeners will love the WR-2. But if you're a radio buff like I am and enjoy the outstanding FM reception of the Grundig S350, the Kaito 1101 and 1103 models (called Degen in China), then I'm afraid the WR-2 will disappoint. To be fair to the WR-2, the more expensive Bose radio suffers the same problem of mediocre FM reception.
Another important point: Because this radio has a remote control, it works great in your computer office. You can keep the WR-2 six feet or so away from your computer and avoid interference as you toggle stations and volume with your remote.
Post Script: Make sure to turn on the external antenna switch in the back of the Sangean. It improves reception by tenfold.
Update: I bought a second WR-2 (in black) three years after the first and get excellent FM reception so apparently the radio has improved in newer models. New rating: 5 stars.

Boasting an acoustically balanced wooden enclosure and an enhanced front-firing 3-inch speaker, the Sangean WR-2 tabletop radio offers the sound and features of a living room system in a cabinet that fits conveniently in a bedroom, kitchen, or garage. Any discussion of the WR-2 begins with its black wooden housing, which is rich in both appearance and tone. The cabinet's front surface features the speaker on the left side, a series of intuitively placed control buttons toward the bottom, and a generously sized LCD display in the middle with three brightness levels. More importantly, the cabinet teams with the 7-watt amplifier and the acoustic bass compensation system to add warmth and depth to the audio. Complementing the housing is Sangean's advanced RF/IF electronic circuitry, which picks up distant AM and FM stations and reproduces them with unmatched clarity, making music and even talk programs come alive.
Even though the WR-2 is advertised as an AM/FM radio, it offers much more than a standard digital tuner, including a Radio Data System (RDS) that displays short text messages on applicable FM stations, along with support for the Enhanced Other Network (EON) and its traffic information (available in certain regions). And unlike most tabletop radios, the WR-2 lets listeners adjust the treble and bass levels via the variable volume control. In its default mode, the rotary volume knob displays the volume level from 1 to 60. Tap it once, however, and it turns into a full-range treble control, and two taps creates a full-range bass control. Additional features include a clock with an alarm (radio or buzzer), an auxiliary input jack for connecting such devices as an iPod or MP3 player (both of which sound great through the speaker), a recording output jack, 10 memory presets that help you quickly find your favorite stations, and a full-featured infrared remote control.
A final bonus stems from the power backup function, which plays the radio for six minutes during a power failure (great for emergencies) and retains the memory preset and clock values for about an hour. The WR-2 measures roughly 9.5 by 4.5 by 6 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 5.5 pounds.
What's in the Box WR-2 tabletop radio, detachable power cord, infrared remote control, user's manual.

Boston Acoustics TVee Model Two - Speaker system - 100 Watt (total) - midnight Review

Boston Acoustics TVee Model Two - Speaker system - 100 Watt (total) - midnight
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Not long ago I bought my second HDTV, a 52-inch Sony Bravia. Fine picture, but the sound wasn't as good as my 5-year-old Hitachi that it replaced. In particular, I frequently couldn't understand the dialogue in movies. I figured I needed some auxiliary speakers. I had no interest in a big surround-sound home theater system, just wanted clean clear sound. The speaker bar configuration looked like it would fit well in my setting, so I researched all the popular models, and listened to a bunch of them at my local Best Buy. The Boston Acoustics TVee Model Two was the smallest of the good ones, and one of the least expensive, and had as good sound as any of the others, so I bought one, and have been very happy with the results. I no longer have to replay dialogue segments several times to figure out what people are saying on the screen. The overall sound is richer and fuller than the TV speakers provide, also, thanks in part to the wireless subwoofer that accompanies the speaker bar (yes, it does look like an upside-down wastebasket, but where I have it it fits right in). Setup, including programming my existing TV remote to control the volume and muting, was maximally simple and error-free. The subwoofer has its own independent volume control, so it's easy to get just the right balance of bass and midrange sounds.
This is not a speaker system for serious sound geeks. It will only take an analog signal from the TV speaker out ports. Controls are minimal, just power, volume, and muting. But for someone who wants an order-of-magnitude improvement over the puny speakers that come with today's flat-screen TVs, for about $200, it will fill the bill very nicely.
I see that Amazon doesn't have any new ones of these speakers to sell at present, so this review may be past its use-by date. Nonetheless, I offer it here for what it's worth.

Boston Acoustics VR 3 - Speaker - 3-way Review

Boston Acoustics VR 3 - Speaker - 3-way
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These replaces my 6 month old Bose 301s which replaces a pair of 5 year old Bose 201s, I am extremely happy to have taken the chance and bought this speakers base on other customers review on their website. I have thru the span of 20 yrs or so accumulated to 450+ cds in my collections. With the Bose 301s, the sound seems colored, unnaturally enhanced. With these speakers the music sounds wider, deeper, involving or shall I say REAL and Balanced. The music is presented as close as the artist I guess would have intended it to be. The build is solid, the Dark cherry color is amazingly nice very pleasant and classy to the eye. The price is a steal, I have listen to other speakers that doesn't even come close to the sound these VR3's produce, and they're at least twice or even three times more expensive. I have only written three reviews over maybe perhaps close to over a 80-100's purchases I have done thru Amazon. And these speakers are just too good not to spread the news around. So far after close to 50 hours of listening to music, the sounds seems to get better and better, Crisp and Clear. If your planning to upgrade or replace your sound system give these speakers an auditioned or like me, just make the leap of faith and buy it. I promised you, In the sub $[...] speakers category nothing comes close to the value, build, aesthetic and above all, sound that this speakers produce. Oh, by the way, even without a separate subwoofer, these VR3s has tremendous bass from the incorporated woofer in the speaker. I hope this helps. Happy listening to music.

Over the past two months I have read reviews for the various ipod speaker docks as well as tested several in stores. I'm not sure you'll find many comparable to this one, especially in this price range. I agree with the previous review that you will have to adjust the EQ on your ipod to boost the treble otherwise the bass can become overpowering with some types of music. If you're looking for simple design with surprising sound, this is the one. I owned a portable speaker dock prior to this and ended up parting with it. Although I can't fold this down and put it in a case to take it wherever I go, the sound quality far outweighs the portable ability.

National Geographic TOPO Weekend Explorer 3D (Boston, Cape Cod, Rhode Island) Review

National Geographic TOPO Weekend Explorer 3D (Boston, Cape Cod, Rhode Island)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This software is great! I've used it for 5 trips now throughout the Las Vegas area. Mostly out at Red Rocks, Lake Mead and Valley of Fire. As soon as Mt. Charleston thaws out, that will be the next destination.
Features I like:
1.Multiple views from broad general overviews of southern Nevada to highly detailed 7.5 USGS spec maps that I can really plan a trip with.
2. Transferring waypoints to and from my GPS.
3. Route making ability allows me to project and plot routes.
4. Routes are measured by distance and profile grade. I can see if a route I planned is too steep or not down to a percentage of a grade.
5. Photo/Note tool allows me to chronicle my travels on the software and save the maps for later reference.
6. Print/Export capabilities allow me to print out the part of the maps I want for my trips and allows me to save them as JPEGS to send to fellow hikers. Also can send projected hiking itineraries to friends in case of an emergency.
7. You can download the CD map content to your hard drive so you don't need the disk every time you use the software.
Features I don't like:
1. Some of the maps used by the USGS for this area haven't been updated since 1982, so the water level around Lake Mead is not accurate. It makes trip planning out there more difficult because you always end up in the drink on the map.
2. The route making tool is a little tricky to get the hang of. They should have made this tool easier to use.
3. Anytime you change options on the 3D portion of the map, you have to reload that feature; it just doesn't update on the fly.
