When I first purchased the Boston Acoustic ipod system I was a little worried at first because no one has reviewed it, and I wasn't very familiar with the Boston Acoustic brand. But now since I have received the system, it is the most amazing thing ever. The sound quality is great and very loud. The base has overpowering sound. Overall this sound system might be better than the sound system that I currently have in my Jeep Wrangler. I was truly amazed with the results I received with these speakers and subwoofers.

Boston Acoustics P450 28-Inch Aluminum On-Wall Speaker Review

Boston Acoustics P450 28-Inch Aluminum On-Wall Speaker

I purchased a "Boston Acoustic P450 28-ich Aluminum On-Wall Speaker" but that is not what I received. The picture is a Boston Acoustic Bravo II and that is what you get. What was wrong was the MSRP on Amaozon's website says $600. The price convinced me that it was a P450 not a Bravo II ($200). I was able to return the item and get reimbursed. Amazon apologized and told me that they would correct the website. I want to point out that the website still has the wrong information. Make sure you do not fall for this like I did.

Boston Acoustics Voyager RK5 Outdoor Rock Speaker (Sandstone) Review

Boston Acoustics Voyager RK5 Outdoor Rock Speaker (Sandstone)
Average Reviews:

I ordered these speakers, that's speakers with an "s" at the end, meaning plural. You would think you would get a pair of speakers. But you don't. When I called to complain all Amazon would do was tell me I was wrong when their website is clearly wrong. They actually had the audacity to say this one speaker has 2 speakers in it and that's what the ad means.
I asked if I could get another speaker and they said yes but the price went up $98.00 overnight, this doubled the cost. What a ripoff.
I've been an Amazon Prime customer for years and I am very disappointed. Time to try another online vendor.
My local BBB has been notified of the deceptive advertising.

Boston Acoustics Horizon Series MCS100MDNT 5.1-Channel Speaker System (Black) Review

Boston Acoustics Horizon Series MCS100MDNT 5.1-Channel Speaker System (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

The Boston Acoustics Horizon Series MCS100 5.1-Channel Speaker System is a good quality, well constructed set. But these speakers may be undersized for many home theaters. I happened upon the Horizon MCS set as I was helping somebody just starting their home theatre. They had already purchased a Yamaha receiver with high power output. Along with the high price, that was my main reason for advising other alternatives. Ultimately, after testing this set out with them they returned it in favor of another. You should do your research to make sure your speakers fit your space and other components.
THE PROS
In terms of durability, the speaker cases are really pretty good. The body style is not one of my favorites, but many will find them attractive and nondescript. The case construction is solid. The connectors and binding posts make nice strong connections. The sound clarity is also nice and responsive. So there are some positives.
PERFORMANCE
While the bass response of this set may be adequate for some, bass-heads will not be satisfied. The overall output is only enough for smaller spaces and starter AV systems. More disappointing to me is the performance of the center channel and satellites. Even if you have a receiver that will allow you to add speakers and grow it to a 7.1 setup, it's easier to scale up when your satellites are adequately sized. These speakers do not have enough amplitude to fill most living rooms.
CONSIDERATIONS
1. The list price of this set is excessive for what you get. BA is a good brand and this is a nice starter set, but this is a premium price. Even at half of list, there are comparable sets.
2. The sound output is crisp and clean but only enough for a smaller living room 150 square feet large or less. If you have a larger room, the output may not be enough. Even in small spaces some may just want more pop.
3. If you already have a receiver, check the specs on it. 10 - 100 watts may fit those with basic needs. But be careful not to push more power through these speakers than they can handle. And definitely work them in before pushing them towards the top end of their range.
4. In 5.1 speaker sets, many alternatives offer a better value or better sound. Total beginners and non-audiophiles may get a better value elsewhere. Most beginners can't distinguish good quality from great quality and should save their cash.
6. Decide if you want a 5.1 set-up or plan to grow to 7.1. Also consider if you are setting up a full high-definition home theatre with BluRay or full HD sound. Some of those configurations are based on 7 channels of sound. You can always add-on speakers to this set. But others like the 130 are sized better for adding on. If you mix different satellites the smallest ones become your weakest link. So consider all your options.
THE ALTERNATIVES
Some won't mind paying a premium for the Boston Acoustics brand but you can get a lot more for your money, even from other BA sets. It might make sense to pay a little more if you are getting more. Most people with a high quality receiver probably want and need more output.
The Boston Acoustics Horizon Series MCS130 5.1-Channel Surround Speaker System costs about 20% more but gives you a lot more sound for your money. The center channel and satellites are only slightly larger, but the output is much nicer. It should probably be the baseline for 5.1 systems.
Even as somebody who is not a huge Polk enthusiast, the Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System is a quality set that performs better and tends to sell for about half of this BA set. The construction is about equal but that set has much richer more powerful sound.
The Klipsch Synergy Quintet III Home Theater Speaker System and Harman Kardon HKTS-18 5.1 Channel Speaker System also deserve comparison. Prices fluctuate but each gives you more for your money. As another option, the Onkyo SKS-HT540 7.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System is a 7 channel set that has more power and a better price point.
An integrated AV speaker system may allow some beginners to save their money for a better surround sound speaker system in the future. Sets like the Harmon Kardon CP40 Home Theater System offer novices better value and an easier install. Once again, most beginners won't notice the nuances of what is given up in quality.
If you're going to spend your money somewhere, get the best receiver you can first. It is better to add on fewer better quality speakers as your budget allows than to buy an entire set of speakers that you may quickly outgrow.
Many people will buy this set based upon BA's brand name and reputation for quality. I would rather spend a little more and get a set that won't be as easily outgrown. If you just want an entry level set, you can get close to this level of performance for less money. If cost is no issue, it may make sense to start with something with more output. That's why even though this is a decent set it is kind of poorly targeted for many buyers' needs.
CONCLUSION
This is a nice set but do not expect to be blown away by the output. Make sure you plan out what space you need to fill and how this set fits with your home theater equipment. But if it does fit your needs and you can get it on sale, then go for it. Just do your research before you pull the trigger.
Enjoy.************************
Update - February 2009: The price of this set has fluctuated a lot due to promotions. It is now selling at list price. At the time I wrote this review it was about 15% less than list price. The price was then discounted several times to less than 50% of list price, making it a much better deal for some people. However, at any price I still feel that making sure you have the right set for your needs is more important than cost. These are far from a *one size fits all* speaker set. Hope this puts things in context.

Turn up your vehicle's audio performance with the db651, a 6-1/2-inch coax speaker designed to drop into a variety of applications in no time at all. Advanced materials reduce component weight while offering rock solid reliability, advanced looks and ultra high performance. Borrowing technology from Polk Audio's flagship SR Series, the db Series offers exceptional value for the price.

db651 Features
The db651 come with 6-3/4 inch adaptor rings for easy fit in VWs, Audis, BWMs and other European cars.
Dynamic Balance Driver Technology for pure, distortion free sound.
Polymer/Mica Composite Cones are stiff yet lightweight for big sound and little distortion.
Klippel Optimized Components for consistent, distortion-free sound.
Marine Certified means the db651 is built tough to withstand the harshest environments on the water.
Low-mass 2-Layer Kapton Voice Coil Kapton has a high melting temperature, ensuring reliability and high power handling.
Swivel Mount Tweeter allows precise aiming of sound.
Wheel-inspired style combines with rugged durability in the db grille.

Polk Audio's db Series Polk Audio's entire db line of coaxial and component speakers has been redesigned and re-engineered with superior looks and even better sound. Polk has added three new sizes to cover a broader range of vehicle applications. And they've done all that at prices that make high performance affordable to everyone! The db Series works well in OEM factory systems, as well as with high-powered aftermarket head units and component power amps. The db Series delivers classic Polk Audio performance and durability like never before.
This is how you turn up the style. The look is about more than performance. It's about making every detail count, from the wiring harness under the hood to the fit and finish of your loudspeaker installs. Even before you fire them up, the db Series delivers. ABS wheel-inspired grilles make a muscular statement about your entire audio system and say you're ready to unleash some real sound. Hidden wire channels give your system a clean, professional look. Now if you'd prefer to be more subtle about your audio system (although why would you?), db makes a comfortable stealth installation and will mount easily behind factory grilles.
The db Series fits. Yes, it's just that simple. The last thing Polk wants is to sell you a great speaker that doesn't fit. Our new multi-hole mounting pattern and shallow-depth magnet design have created our highest vehicle application ratio for easy drop-in installations in just about any car on the road (and probably some that should have been taken off the road years ago). Tweeters in the component models can be flush & surface-swivel mounted using the supplied hardware. With db, we've made sure you have maximum install flexibility.
High Efficiency Design It means less amplifier power is needed for more audio output. Meaning better sound and more volume using less power. The bottom line is db Loudspeakers will definitely blow you and your friends away, whether they're driven by aftermarket head units or factory installed electronics.
Marine Certified Marine Certified means your db loudspeakers will perform reliably on the water as well as they do on land. So Polk attacked every db speaker with a series of punishing real world and accelerated weathering lab tests to see if they could take what some pretty nasty marine and automotive environments could dish out. Polk exposed dbs to hundreds of hours of salt fog, intense ultraviolet light and extreme temperatures from -40 degrees to 185 degrees F (-40 degrees to 85 degrees C). They performed as well after the tests as before (they didn't look so good). No wonder Correct Craft builds Polk Audio speakers into their award-winning Nautiques ski and wakeboarding boats, and Bullet uses Polk db speakers in their marine "tower" speaker enclosures.

Boston Acoustics Classic Series CPS10Wi Wireless Ready Powered Woofer (Black) Review

This system delivers as advertised. My use was to augment an existing home theater ( ~14' x 20' area). The wireless feature was essential to keeping things simple and allowing proper speaker placement into an already finished space. Easy hookup with any modern amp (look for the sub-woofer connection!). It definitely adds a significant new dimension to watching movies, even if you already have a high end speaker system. In this space, the 10 inch woofer is more than adequate to vibrate your seat.

Polk Audio Surroundbar IHT 3000 Home Entertainment System (Black) Review

Polk Audio Surroundbar IHT 3000 Home Entertainment System (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Originally I bought a Boston Acoustics Soundbar (see explanation below for returning it) but now I have the Polk Soundbar and love it. I found one major problem with setup. I am a wi fi household and the wireless subwoofer had a conflict with my network wi fi. I am not terribly knowledgeable about routers but after going to Cnet forums got the answer which I would like to share with you. My problem was I have a Roku box and I was unable to stream. It would begin and then stop. If I turned off the soundbar it worked perfectly. I put the sub woofer in various places based on Polk's instructions, trying to shield it from the wi fi signal but nothing worked. The answer turned out to be very simple. (I had even gone so far as to buy a new router which also didn't work for reasons which will become obvious if you continue reading.) All I had to do was bring up my router's configuration screen and change the channel setting. The Soundbar was set for channel one as was my wi fi. I first tried channel five and it almost worked but after a few minutes, it stalled again so I then changed to channel 11 the farthest and last choice and bingo, it worked great and continues to work great.
I live in a 1400 sq ft house and the living room is about 12' x 20'. This unit is actually a little too much for the size of the room but when I made the necessary changes in my tv sound setup and the Dish remote setup, it made a big difference. Sometimes the sound was shrill so I changed the treble and bass settings on my tv and they do work for the soundbar even when you are not using the tv sound which I found I don't really need. For music this soundbar is astounding. For speech it is excellent. I do have a hearing problem and since Netflix has no subtitles yet, I do need some help. My tv is an LG 55" LED and the sound is ok but this soundbar has solved our problems when watching a streaming Netflix movie. I also stream Leo LaPorte which is TWIT.tv and for him I don't need the soundbar because the sound is so clear but I still use it. The other night we watched a very old, 61 years, movie called Impact using the Polk soundbar and could hear every word clearly!!
Programming my Dish TV remote was simple so I only use the Polk remote when I want to change the sub woofer if it is just too much bass.
All in all, I love this unit. I have it standing on the cabinet in front of my tv with the sub woofer on the floor beside it. You can get even better bass if you put the sw in a corner of the room. I think it would be great even for a very large room since I sometimes have to turn it way down for some programs. For music, again, fantastic. Of course, you will be forced to turn it down for commercials, just can't solve that issue.
When I was listening to the Boston A and the Polk bars, I really thought that the Boston A was better because I was unable to adjust the sub woofer on the Polk. The salesman told me it had no controls on it, well, he was wrong, I can control it so you can set it any way you choose. After having the Polk for a month I feel it is ALMOST as good as the Boston A and since the Boston A only has audio out RCA jacks I couldn't buy it anyway.
This brings me to another very important point when shopping for any soundbar which is to be sure what your tv accomodates. (I suggest you download your TV manual and take the pages you need with you, showing what audio out jacks you have.) My tv, the LG, does NOT accomodate RCA jacks for audio out, only optical out. Remember, I had originally bought a Boston Acoustics soundbar and had to return it. Because I had to go back three times Best Buy agreed to sell me the Polk for $301, the same price I paid for the Boston Acoustics bar. I also could not get the enclosed optical cord to work but fortunately had bought one years ago which works great. The enclosed one is very thin and the one I had is much thicker, don't know if that was the reason. Optical cables are very difficult to insert so don't lose hope, eventually you will be successful.
Since many people lambast BB, I want to say that when I returned the first Boston unit, (it had obviously been returned by someone and I thought it was defective) they apologized and said I should have been charged the open box price ($269) so brought out another open box, which was sealed and had a big label saying Open Box on it. He opened it up and set it up and thinking he had confirmed that I had a headphone jack I could use, I bought it. Well, as luck would have it, no headphone jack on my LG and no optical on the Boston unit, why I cannot figure out. He went to a lot of trouble for so low a priced unit and I appreciated his effort. When I returned it again, he actually tried to avoid me, knowing that I would take up a lot of his time. As I understand it, BB sales people get bonuses at the end of the month based on sales so even though they don't get commissions as many other electronics stores, if still in existence, pay, they do make money on their sales. The higher their number, the more they get. But he did come over, finally, when I tracked him down and once again, brought out the soundbar and set it up to check. So kudos to Best Buy, San Rafael, this particular sales guy and to Polk.

These Boston Acoustics HS 40MDNT speakers are fairly small in size, but don't let that fool you. They sound much larger than they actually are. The rubberized case is different than the standard wood cabinets, but it's a nice touch and they are built very rugged. I cranked these way up in the store and compared them to the latest from Polk, Klipsch and Bose and these had the richest sound with a good mix of bass and high ranges. Great speakers!

Horrible. Don't buy it. After slipping it on and off my ipod 3 or 4 times, it totally scratched it up. It creates vertical lines on the front and back of the ipod.
It is also very difficult to use. Almost impossible to switch the "HOLD" button on. And every time you try, the ipod will slip out of the case.
